The Election Commission said on Monday that it has not backtracked from its 2008 guidelines to share data related to voter lists and its associated photo identity cards with government departments. The Commission says that the things being done in this regard are not based on facts. However, the Commission has not given any clarity as to whether clarification is being given in any context.
Recently, some social media posts said that the Election Commission has shared data related to voter list and identity card with Delhi Police to identify people involved in communal riots in the capital in February. The Election Commission issued a press release in this regard, saying that the Commission has not done anything different from the original guidelines of 2008 and the explicit order of 2020.
